Destination of the Month

BARCELONA

Dasa visited Barcelona this summer and want to share with you some highlights of her stay.

Sagrada FamiliaBarcelona is capital of the autonomous Spanish region of Catalonia and it is one of the Europe’s most beautiful cities.

To see Barcelona, you need at least 3 full days. For the lovers of the architecture of Antoni Gaudi, this is a paradise.

Gaudi’s most famous creation SAGRADA FAMILA, is still the work in progress and it will leave you speechless.
Rooftop of his CASA MILA (or otherwise known as LA  PEDRERA), is like a bizarreCasa Mila Barcelona landscape on a faraway planet.

CASA BATLO, also opened to the public, is a must see. Its scaly dragon like roof, mosaic tiles, windows and towers will let you wonder about genius of Gaudi.

For people, who just like to stroll around or sit at the cafés to soak the atmosphere
of the city- LAS RAMBLAS and GOTHIC QUARTEE are the places to go. There are a lot of interesting places along Rambla - one of them is La Boqueria covered market, where you can find every sea creature, fruit as well as pigs heads...

For those who want to cool off on the beach- there is Barceloneta, Port Olimpic and beaches. There you will also find the work of another great architect Frank Gehry - his fish like sculpture changes with the different light of the day, but is always stunning…

When it comes to eating out, get ready for late meals. Locals have lunch from 2-4pm,
and kitchen opens for dinner at 9pm and continues until midnight.

Tapas – small cold and hot appetizers are a great way to taste many different dishes. Paella is another local dish not to be missed.

For lunch, look for the restaurants with fixed price menu-you can get salad, main entrée, desert and bottle of excellent Spanish wine at 7-10 EUR per person.
Many people do not speak English, but all try very hardBarcelonetta Barcelona to understand and help.
Avoid eating at tourist places- the food is usually mediocre and prices much higher.
Our best meals were in the small restaurants filled with locals, not far from the apartment we were renting in L’EIXAMPLE.

Taste local wines, they are delicious and a steal for 1.75Eur for a bottle.

One of the best deals in sightseeing is BUS TURISTIC- you can buy 1 or 2 day ticket that allows you to hop on and off on any of the 3 bus routes and will allow you to see all the highlights of Barcelona.

We invite you totake a journeywith us.
